Giving Tuesday: Help Keep Our Students Safe
The distances between our Maya Jaguar campus and students’ home villages, plus the lack of reliable transportation, make it impossible for our students to commute daily. We transport, educate, house, and feed all our students on campus for three weeks each month during the school year. The poor road conditions require the use of four-wheel drive pickup trucks not only for transporting students, but also for supplies and maintenance work on campus.
We currently have two Toyota all-wheel drive pickups with rugged tires, one fairly new and the other wearing out. We do our best to get three years’ use before we sell our trucks and purchase a replacement. For safety concerns and to prevent maintenance issues, we replace our trucks on a regular cycle. Now we need to replace our older pickup truck for the 2025 school year, which starts in January. By trading in the old truck, we hope to be able to purchase a new one for about $17,500 net.
Another challenge we face is the constant need for new tires - due to the rough terrain, we wear out three sets per year for each truck!
This Giving Tuesday we would like to ask you for the gift of safety!
Please help us raise the remaining $17,500 to acquire a new truck to keep our students safe throughout the school year!
