Shelly and Pete Smith

Out of tragedy emerges an opportunity to DOUBLE your impact to improve Maya students’ lives!

Our treasurer, Shelly Smith, unexpectedly lost her husband Pete in December. Pete was an ardent supporter of our Maya Jaguar schools and its students. He loved the Maya children and was a strong believer in the power of education – he and Shelly devoted their time, energy, and resources to that end. Pete and Shelly visited Maya Jaguar and the surrounding villages in 2023 and he was scheduled to visit again in January to welcome the students back to campus.

In memoriam to honor Pete and continue his legacy of empowering underserved Maya children through education, Shelly has graciously pledged to match your scholarship donation dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. Your donation and the matching gift will literally change the future for the 57 enrolled Maya students and their impoverished families. Many of our students continue on in their education enabling vocational and professional careers, once believed impossible to attain. Help us make a difference.
